10 Life Lessons According To 'Harry Potter'

If you're like me, you grew up on "Harry Potter." The series is literally as old as me, which is kind of hard to believe. I distinctly remember waiting for each new book and movie release, and if I was lucky I could go to the midnight releases (if they weren't on school nights). Waiting for the books and movies to come out gave me something to look forward to. Every time there's a "Harry Potter" marathon, I'm always excited to watch it even thought I've seen each movie at least a dozen times. Besides the amazing plot, and the cleverness of J.K. Rowling, who never ceases to amaze me with her writing skills and how she can tie up every little detail, I've actually learned some life lessons while reading and watching the series.

1. There are going to be dark times in your life.

I admire J.K. Rowling so much for speaking about her depression, and even creating the Dementors to represent the mental illness, but the series goes on to show that things can get better, and sometimes all you need is the support of your friends to make it through the dark times.

2. Love hurts.

Even though Lavender Brown was totally obnoxious about her relationship with Ron, I couldn't help but feel bad for her about how that relationship ended. And let's not forget how Harry felt when he saw Ginny (who I low-key despise) with Dean.

3. Don't always judge someone by their actions.

I am in no way defending Snape, because he was pretty awful, but in his own twisted way, he had good intentions when it came to Harry, sort of. Was his way of showing Lily how much he loved her ridiculous? Pretty much, but in the end he was on the good guy's side, so you have to give him props for that. It just goes to show, not everyone is what you make them out to be in your head.

4. Anyone who wears all pink is probably the spawn of Satan.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Umbridge was 100 times worse than Voldemort. If we've learned anything from a girl who wears all pink ("Mean Girls" is another prime example) is that they're not the be trusted or messed with.

5. Making deep connections with friends will help you in the long run.

The golden trio is as close knit as you possibly can be (even though I also have issues with Ron). Ron may have left Harry and Hermione, and rudely reminded Harry about how he's an orphan, but he did return to help them defeat Voldemort, and that's what really matters, right?

6. You might end up with your childhood celebrity crush.

If Ginny can marry Harry, I can marry Harry Styles right?

7. You might end up regretting that tattoo you got as a teenager.

Looking at you, Draco.

8. Being different is OK.

Do not tell me Luna Lovegood isn't the greatest character in the entire series. She's so pure and basically a ray of sunshine that needs to be protected.

9. Don't put people on a pedestal.

Harry idolized Dumbledore for his entire life. While I agree Dumbledore was pretty boss, he completely kept the fact that Harry had to eventually die in order to defeat Voldemort. HE LIED TO HARRY FOR SEVEN YEARS! But Harry still thought he was the bee's knees.

10. Don't underestimate the weak link.

I just want to say, that Neville Longbottom had the best glow-up in the history of glow-ups and I will fight you on this!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
