Going into freshman year, I wanted the best of the best for my dorm. With that being said, I easily went a little overboard (okay.. maybe a lot overboard).

1. Storage bins

Storage bins are great! Having 8 of them? Not so great. Realistically you need about 2-3 storage bins. Although they can be cute, they take up too much space and while living in a small space clutter is just not an option.

2. Decorative pillows

A cute concept, but how practical is it that you are going to make your bed everyday and arrange your pillows so it looks like you have your life together? MAYBE once a week, so don't over kill it and get one or two.

3. Most of my wardrobe

Okay, maybe I literally didn't throw it out, but I did bring 75% of it home. Personally I dress very comfy at all times unless Im going to a party or off campus somewhere. Wardrobe spaces in dorms can vary, but overall are small so save yourself the frustration and don't bring that shirt with you that you haven't worn since 9th grade.

4. Cups, plates, and silverware. Basically anything that needs to be washed.

This is just a hassle and takes time and if you're lazy like me you will not want to go wash it right after you're done using whatever it is. If you do want to use cups, plates, and silverware start using paper or plastic ones!

5. A Keurig

I actually don't know why I even bought one. I don't drink hot coffee and get a Starbucks iced coffee everyday before class.

6. Office supplies

Never once have I touched my stapler or binder clips. Things like this the library are good for (oh yeah, and it's free!)

7. Fancy dresses and shoes

What? The? Hell? Was? I? Thinking? Yes, I love my nude wedges that I definitely paid way too much for, but there is no need for them. If you are rushing for a sorority a nice dress and heels can come in handy, but before you bring them, check when your school's rush week is for freshman and plan accordingly; either go home and get them or get them shipped to you!

8. Excessive decorations

Yes I know that cute "namaste" light up sign is cute and is only 7$, but you don't need it! Also, if you have the luck I do, it will be broken and not even light up. Anyway, crazy amounts of decorations can cause clutter and that thing that you said you will put on your desk will just take up space you need for something else.

9. A planner

I never used a planner throughout high school so I don't know why I thought I would change in college. I thought buying a really cute one (if you do use planners checkout bando.com, they are super cute) would make me want to use one, but it didn't. At this point it is just sitting on my desk as decoration. I just use reminders on my phone as my planner or google calendar.

10. Every type of medication, cough syrup, and first aid type thing known to man

Do I really need every type of cough syrup out there? No, but my mom thought I did.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
