We've all ridden the RTS bus system to get to class, Publix, downtown or literally anywhere else that we could not get to on foot. Since we've all been on the Gainesville bus system, it's pretty fair to say that we've shared some common experiences, some good and some not so great.
1. Rider says the bus is 10 minutes away, which is a lie.
The bus schedule is usually a lie. When it says it's 10 minutes away, it really means 15 to 20 minutes.
2. Your bus says it's "boarding" for a solid five minutes.
As I sit at the bus stop staring at my app saying that my bus is "boarding," I find no bus in sight ever.
3. Decoding the online bus map is like going through a Labyrinth.
Ok, seriously, this is the worst maze ever. I can never figure out how to get to where I need to be if it's somewhere I have never even heard of.
4. When you finally make it to the bus stop, you're on the wrong side.
I've done this way too many times and missed the bus. You have to make sure you are on the right side where the bus is going the direction you need it to go in.
5. You can literally never get dropped off less than 1/4 mile from where you need to go.
I am definitely guilty of this one, too. I can never seem to be dropped off exactly where I am going. In the end, I am always either 40 years early to my meeting or 30 minutes late.
6. It's close to impossible to figure out how to find a bus that takes you somewhere you've never been before.
If you need to get somewhere you have never been before, prepare to wake up a good two hours early to figure out the bus you need. It is oh so difficult to find the right bus and make sure you are on time for it.
7. If you wake up late for an 8:30 a.m. class, you have .2 seconds before you miss the bus.
If you wake up at 8:15 a.m. for your 8:30 a.m. class, you better be out the door in less than a minute so you don't miss the bus.
8. There's always that one creepy person that tries to talk to you.
I've definitely had one too many of these happen to me. I've had to get off the bus at the wrong stop just to stop someone from pestering me.
9. If you are trying to get to Archer road sometime between 3 to 5 p.m., good luck!
This has to be the worst for those that live on Archer or need to get there during these hours. You will be waiting for the bus forever because every bus that passes by you is at "full capacity."
10. Even though you and RTS have a love/hate relationship, you still need each other.
Even though you hate RTS, you still need each other to make it places mostly on time!
