I finally made it past my 21st birthday and I've started to realized there are things my family said to me or asked me before, during, or after my birthday that they never would have before. I've come to find out, I'm not the only one who's realized this.
1. "So how many times have you drank before midnight on your birthday?"
*nervous laughter*
2. "You took that shot without even making a face."
I gave the best response to this and #1 with the same answer: "Let's just say I can shoot vodka straight without a problem."
3. "Make sure you have a designated driver."
Isn't that what Uber's for?
4. *sits at bar* "What do you want to drink?
I don't know! I've been to a bar once! Actually... Make that three times now but still! My friends and I just mixed vodka with whatever was in the fridge before any of us were legal!
5. "What kind of alcohol do you like?"
Redds, Mike's, Fireball, and whatever sorta cheap hard liquor I can mix with pop or Gatorade is usually A-okay with me.
6. "Maybe you should slow down."
That's funny because if this were any other situation, you'd be yelling for me to hurry up.
7. "You couldn't even walk a straight line."
Umm... have you ever seen me walk? I can't do that when I'm 100% sober.
8. "Are you going out tonight?"
I hardly went out before why would that really change now? I'd much rather have a couple Mike's at my place and watch a movie than go out, just saying.
9. "You'll probably go to the bar a lot."
Not really. I feel much safer and more comfortable at one of the frats with alcohol I brought myself in a water bottle than I do at a crowded bar where the drinks cost more than I really want to spend.
And finally, the same question, you get every birthday:
10. "Do you feel any different?"
Not really. Feels just like 20, except now I can buy my own alcohol and have a pro make my drinks every now and again.
