Music is a language. You can say things through music that would otherwise never come out of your mouth. As I have said before, I am an extremely sentimental gal, and music can convey feelings, emotions, and memories to me like nothing else can. Also, there's no denying that a good jam can get you feeling all sorts of ways. Happy, sad, pumped, calm, excited, you name it. If you are agreeing with everything I've said so far, you probably say these things practically every day:
1. "Ah, this reminds me of (insert person)"
There's always a person that rock out with, whether that be your best friend, parent, co-worker, etc. Also, sometimes you share music interests with your friends or significant other and there's a certain song that you'd fawn over, play it on repeat forever, and boom it's "your song." *Insert Taylor Swift reference here*
2. "Wow, this reminds me of (insert childhood memory)"
Holidays, major life events, little moments, anything really. Examples: 1) Whenever I hear "See You Again" by Miley Cyrus I have flashbacks to playing Littlest Pet Shop and jamming in my room. 2) My dad and I would dance around in our living room to "Back When" by Tim McGraw when I was little. I can't help but smile whenever I hear it.
3. "Yeah, this reminds me of (insert place)"
I can't listen to "No Hands" or "Every Time We Touch" without thinking of my hometown.
4. "Man, this reminds me of (insert practically any experience you've had ever)"
It can be the most strange and irrelevant moment in your life. I'm talking about that one song (Blank Space by Taylor Swift) that reminds you (not me) about driving to basketball games as a sophomore in the dead of winter with friends (definitely me).
I didn't realize I was going to reference Taylor so many times throughout this article. No Shame.
5. "THIS IS MY JAM."
AKA: "I LOVE THIS SONG." AKA: *Clear out within a 100 ft radius unless you want to get injured while I get down to this song.* Also, this is an invitation for you to sing with me.
6. "I'm gonna cry"
The power of music, I tell ya what. You think it's a good idea to listen to sad music while you're sad but you end up crying and being sadder. It's all in good fun, though.
7. "I need to go for a drive"
Driving with the windows down and music up can remedy pretty much anything.
8. "I got the aux."
No need to fear, the DJ is here.
9. *Spends hours on Spotify/Apple Music/ Amazon Music/whatever floats your boat*
Finding new music, listening to old music, creating playlists, sharing songs with others, and getting in your feels. Personally, I'm a Spotify premium type of person.
10. *Sings*
You might sound great, or you might not. It's a constant thing. Trust me, I get it, you have a different song stuck in your head every day. Nevertheless, your family is annoyed, your friends are annoyed. But in all reality, everyone secretly knows it's actually quite endearing.
No need to be ashamed for your music taste or your love for music in general. No need to hold back. Keep doing you.
