10 DIY Decorating Ideas For Your New Home

Another school year is upon us which means another year of moving. For many of us it is our first time out of a dorm and into our first house or apartment, or maybe it's just another new pad for you. Whatever the case may be, we wanna make our living arrangements feel like home and not some dingy building that you are paying whatever amount for and just trying to get by. Where you sleep and eat should also be a place you enjoy being and can relax in. Whether you're by yourself or have some awesome roomies, here's some decoration ideas to spruce up your new home! All images have links attached to them so you can get more detail if needed.

1. Koozie Wall

I found this idea on a blog and it's absolutely amazing. I have actually begun a koozie collection (not on purpose) and I had no idea where to put them or show them off. But this wall serves as several functions. It makes them easy to grab, a cute decorating space for any size wall, and your guests can share in your koozie awesomeness! This is also super cheap as you can use anything from command strips to push pins, clothespins, and some rope and you are on your way.

2. Pinwheel Placemats

Something I realized this generation doesn't appreciate is a good placemat. Many of them you buy in store tend to be plain, boring, or even kind of trashy looking. With these plain brown mats and the magic of tape and paint, you can make all sorts of cool designs. Now, if you're like me and not very creative or artistic, this simple pattern is cute and awesomely easy to do. But of course, for any of you budding Picasso's this is an awesome chance to get creative and decorative.

3. Ladder Shelf

Now this project may not be for anyone. If you wanna make some improvements on a place or maybe you are starting to think long term in your current living arrangements, this could be the perfect project! It does require a little more work than others, but it is still simple enough to be done by anyone. You will definitely need to sand down the ladder if you plan on adding paint to it so that it has a nice finish. And as you can see you will have to add some supports lower down but it really then is just screwing it into the wall.

4. Glitter Light Switch

Add a nice little pop of color to a dreary hallway with a glitter switch. Just need some quality glue and the glitter of your choice and bam!

5. Towel Rack

This is about as simple as it gets. All you need is some wooden letters and command hooks. Both of which you can paint black or whatever color you prefer and there ya go. A cute little way to not only keep your towels in one place but add some decoration to a boring bathroom.

6. Twig Candle Holders

This is great for people who love scented candles or if you just want a nice rustic feel to your place. Now rather than having all these different candles of random colors and shapes, you can make everything more cohesive by simply gluing some twigs you find in your back yard. I'd pick lower ones though or watch the candle the first couple lightings to make sure nothing catches.

7. Wifi Password Board

I found this for purchase, but it also looks easy enough to make yourself or do your own cute little version of it. Because if we all know there is one question you will always get: "Whats the wifi?"

8. Coffee

This little coffee holder is so simple and so cute. All you really need is a wooden pallet, screw it into the wall, and attach these hooks and you are ready to go!

9. Monogram House Sign

This is very cute and easy to do. Find whatever letter/s and numbers you need and you can attach them pretty simply with wood glue. I recommend command stripping this to the outside to make for easy removal. But this simple design gives you lots of room to get creative and personal.

10. Easy Wall Art

Now wall paintings can add a lot of character to a home, but they can also be quite expensive. Here is the easiest and cheapest solution to that problem. Find some cool plants, and get some canvas and spray paint, and you have some instant accent pieces.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
