The 2016 election cycle can best be described as a dumpster fire. There were more candidates than ever before in primary debates, candidates threw childish attacks at one another, and we are left with two main party nominees who a vast majority of the public don't like and don't trust. With the election just a few short months away I'm here to reminisce on the few good things that came out of this election cycle.
10. Bernie Sanders Hand Gestures
No one talks with their hands as much as Bernie Sanders does. This definitely made the Democratic debates more exciting to watch while we wondered if he would accidentally hit something while throwing his arms around. It also led to this video of him playing the bongos, which I'm sure he'd be great at in real life.
9. Jeb Bush: "Please Clap."
<iframe width="500" height="281" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/DdCYMvaUcrA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="">
This is the exact moment that "Jeb!" lost all hope for his campaign. What made this even better was the New York Times describing him as sounding defeated, and his son recently encouraging Republicans to vote for Trump, even after all he put his father through. Poor guy.
8. Ted Cruz Is The Zodiac Killer
This was the meme of the 2016 election cycle. It got even better when it reached the point where Heidi Cruz felt the need to respond to the rumors, only fueling the fire of the online jokesters.
7. Tim Kaine
Not for his political experience or views on any specific issue, but for the sole fact that his Twitter bio describes him as a "harmonica enthusiast." And the fact that supposedly he "doesn't just carry a harmonica, he carries *four* harmonicas." That's just too much for me to handle. If I'm ever so lucky to meet Tim Kaine and he doesn't have at least two harmonicas on him, I'll honestly be a little disappointed.
6. Tim Kaine's Donald Trump Impression
This has to be the worst Donald Trump impression that has ever been spoken, and I am living for every second of it.
5. News Stations Fact-Checking Trump
Now this isn't just your regular for of fact-checking, instead, some networks have started fact-checking Trump in real time, using the text at the bottom of the screen. This is a whole new way to throw shade.4. Hillary Trying To Be Hip With The Youths
Let us never forget the time Hillary Clinton's campaign asked followers to describe their thoughts on student debt using only emojis. Anytime Hillary tries too hard to win over the youth vote with a pop culture reference she doesn't understand it's just painful. Here she is talking about Pokemon Go, "I don't know who created Pokemon Go but I'm trying to figure out how we get them to have Pokemon Go to the polls."3. Chis Christie Selling His Soul To Trump
That horrified look on his face. You can tell he has just realized that he has ruined his political career by endorsing Trump and becoming his court jester.
2. Lindsey Graham Jokes About Someone Murdering Ted Cruz
"If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you." In one of the funniest and telling jokes in politics, Lindsey Graham was brutally honest about just how much everyone hates working with Ted Cruz.
1. Hecklers Performing An Exorcism On Ted Cruz
This story is almost too good to be true. While at a campaign stop in New Hampshire back in February two protestors started yelling at Ted Cruz during his speech, attempting to perform an exorcism on him. When asked about their reasoning behind their actions one of the men stated,
“He’s very hard to be in the same room with. We had to exorcise some sort of disgusting evil spirit. There’s a reason that the body is so haggard and disgusting, and the face, and it’s all so weathered and gross and hard to look at. And it’s because he’s possessed by a demon. Being in the room with evil so close, it’s just hard to even comprehend. The evil is so deep rooted and maybe if it had to confront itself...”
It might not have been a good year for politics and policy, but it was a great year for political memes.
