10 Options To Consider After Graduation

The unknown is evident when thinking about post-graduation plans from graduate school to landing that perfect job. However, the beauty of the unknown is that there isn't a set path after graduation. It isn't predestined. Yes, it's frightening to think there is life after college, but there are so many opportunities available simply for having a college degree.

Although we still have a good three months until graduation, don't be afraid to research your options. Graduate school isn't the only way to make it in this world, it's only one of the many options available. Take these keys to success and find your own happiness.

The next time people ask you 'What are you doing after graduation?' you can say I will be doing me. Or consider one of these 10 options.

1. Teach English Abroad.

This is a perfect opportunity to visit a different country while working abroad. It will definitely spruce up your graduate school application if you consider applying after teaching abroad for a year. That's if you decide to come back to the U.S.

2. Try a Fellowship.

Fellowships allow you to get real-world experience in your field and at the same time get paid. There are a wide-range of fellowships from governmental, cultural and research-based that cater to your career goals.

3. Join the Peace Corps.

If you never had the chance to travel abroad as an undergrad, this is a perfect opportunity to travel. Whether you have a love for volunteering or you want to get away, this can be a viable option after graduation.

4. Freelance.

Use your degree and freelance for a couple months. There isn't a risk unless you try. For industries such as marketing, public relations and journalism. freelancing can be a great way to build a network and clientele.

5. Do a Gap Year Program like City Year.

Is teaching your passion? For those who are aspiring to be future educators, this is a unique program where you teach anywhere in the U.S. Commit to a year at City Year and receive valuable experiences and a scholarship.

6. Volunteer or work for a nonprofit.

Nonprofits always need help year-round and would be eager to hire a recent graduate. If you are not looking for agency experience or feel ready to dive into the corporate world, try volunteering or working at a local nonprofit of your liking.

7. Become an entrepreneur.

Have you ever had an idea for the next big thing, but never made it a reality? There are now many incubators throughout the country that are willing to help you with your entrepreneurial ideas. Don't be afraid to start something.

8. Backpack around Europe or Asia.

If you have the funds and are adventurous at heart, take an investment in yourself. After all, you have spent most of your life in school.

9. Invest.

10. Take a gap year and do nothing.

After many years in school, you deserve a year of nothing to do whatever it is you want to do.

Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
