January 22, 2018, Amazon started making history with their revolutionized convenience store. What's so special, you ask? This store has none of the things that make convenience stores so taxing: cashiers or checkout lines.
After four years of planning and a year of testing this store with Amazon employees, Amazon Go has been opened to the general public in Seattle, Washington, the city that Amazon is headquartered in.
You enter the store through subway-like gates where you are required to scan the Amazon Go app on your smartphone.
Simply pick up whatever you'd like and Amazon adds it to your "virtual cart."
Amazon uses a combination of computer vision, deep learning algorithms, and sensor fusion to create what they call "just walk out technology." Simply stated, you can grab and go! After you leave, everything is simply charged to your Amazon account, and you can walk away without having to go through a checkout line!
Welcome to Amazon Go.
