How to take a weekend break as a student

As long as you don't have a steady job and your studies don't take you away all day, you can organise your own leisure time. We suggest you don't sit your teenage years at home in front of your computer, but rather go out and do some self-development and interesting learning.

    Art

It's about beauty, about pushing your boundaries, about seeing things differently and feeding your soul. And plenty of places to go for that in the company of a good friend.

    Parks, promenades, beautiful streets

Unfortunately, not every city has many places where you can enjoy a walk: the fresh air, the greenery, the scenery, the architecture, along with a good conversation partner and your favourite beverage to go. But you can have a pleasant walking experience in the city's recreational and cultural venues. At weekends you can also go out of town. For example, you can go for a bike ride.

    Museums

You have to visit as many good museums as possible during your student years. For example Luvr. We and the Ministry of Culture are convinced of this: there are plenty of special programmes for students. With a student card, you can visit most museums for free or for a small fee. Education should be comprehensive! Explore posters and places of cultural interest, and go on holiday to big cities.

    Exhibitions, lectures and galleries

From serious educational lectures to the debut of young, rebellious artists, there's a lot to be excited about. The good thing about many galleries is that the programmes are frequently updated, and you can visit them several times a semester while still finding something new. Many exhibitions are now moving to an interactive format: you will admire the possibilities of new technology and be able to play around with it a bit as part of the programme. That is why exhibitions with virtual reality, dynamic films and observatories with pre-drawn constellations are becoming more and more common. There, you'll be immersed in the atmosphere of a clear summer night with bright stars, which you'll see drawn to full constellations (the Big Dipper, it turns out, has a distinct face).

    Theatres, philharmonic halls and concerts

Watching a live performance and experiencing the emotions portrayed from the stage is a separate aesthetic pleasure. It is like being inside a book and talking to characters. Movies do not convey this vividness, because in front of you there is only a recording and not a real live person. And at concerts, you can dance till you drop, sing your heart out, and get energised. Keep track of your favourite artists, local venues and city music programmes and spare no expense or energy for an unforgettable experience.

    Walks

Leave the global cultural programme for the colder months or go for a walk right after you've had your fill of culture.

    Go on excursions

If you're not studying in your hometown, there's a whole host of excursions: sightseeing trips to historic sites, nature trails or nature reserves. Take an organised trip or go sightseeing on your own. Seeing lots of things and stretching your legs is a great way to spend a leisurely day out. We hope our selection has given you some ideas on how to spice up your time. So long as you're young, get psyched, explore new horizons and venture into the unknown, and let the fresh impressions fill your head.
