A Mall Excursion You Will Never Forget

October has finally rolled around. This month no longer means costumes and candy on Halloween. For college students, it screams midterms! Stress rises, tension is high and people are on edge like never before. Sometimes, you just have to brush off that stress. Ron Burgundy would say that there is only one thing a college student can do when experiencing a midterm study session funk -- “Buy new suits!” Well, in this case, buy new clothes!

An excursion to the mall seemed to be the perfect way to reward myself for the exams I have already taken or procrastinate from studying for the ones coming up. However, on this excursion we came far from purchasing new clothes. Here are five things you can do to make a trip to the mall unforgettable.

1. Blast music so loud in your car that people in the car next to you turn their heads, and decides to join in on the dance party. You may not know it by name, but when, “Slide Along Side,” by the Goo Goo Dolls comes on the radio, you would be dancing and singing your heart out, too. When the red light rolls around, don’t feel awkward that the cars next to you can see you. Make them so jealous that they want to join all the fun. Next thing you know, there will be a dance party at the intersection!

2. Cute sweater in the store window vs. amazing aroma from Bath and Body Works -- go for Bath and Body Works! How can you not be drawn into that amazing aroma? It is simply calling your name. There is wild vanilla, pumpkin spice, and moonlight walk. So many choices, such empty pockets; but, hey, there are always sample bottles!

3. Who needs a spa when you have a roped off section of the mall to get a massage! Talk about quality service. You don’t even have to take the time out of your day to make an appointment, then drive to the spa in order to get a massage. Here, they have them right in the middle of the mall! Just take 10 minutes out of your day to take a seat and get a massage. It sure does take away some of those post-midterm knots that are abundant through the neck and shoulders.

4. The day has been great, and you have really let yourself go and relax. But, now, it is time to do something thrilling, something adventurous and, most importantly, something you have always wanted to do. If you are not going to do it now, when will you? In my case, it was piercings. The fear of potential paralysis from a cartilage piercing came up, and Rachel began spewing off reasons why this would not happen due to axons and motor nerves compared to sensory nerves. Clearly, she had learned a lot in her health classes, however for the rest of us, we just said, “lets do this!” Ironically, as the scientific one of the group, she was the one that had to be comforted the most. While her strong grip nearly crushed my hand, as the needle closed in on her ear, she was told to breathe in, and breathe out -- then, finally, a surprising look of relief. As for me, it was my seventh ear piercing and my stomach still dropped as I saw the needle come towards me. It is safe to say, our mission of thrill seeking was accomplished.

5. This day did not go completely to waste while messing around at the mall. We topped it all off with a few gifts that we thought would be perfect for our soon to be littles! Always got the sisters in the back of our minds! If that isn’t productivity, then I don’t know what is.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
