There have been numerous articles about how the Confederate flag is not racist. I do agree that the flag, itself, is not blatantly supporting slavery. The only way a flag could completely and obviously support slavery is if it was written on the flag. However, the flag does represent states seceding from The United States because of Abraham's Lincoln's desire to pass the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment gave citizenship to slavery because previously they were only considered three-fifths of a person (yes, I'm aware how ridiculous that sounds, but look up the Three-Fifths Compromise) and the 15th Amendment gave former slaves the right to vote.
I also saw a video where someone was claiming that the South seceded from the North because Lincoln was a dictator. Yes, that man did actually say that.
Now that we have that history lesson out of the way, we can clearly see that the Confederate Union was created to uphold slavery -- mainly for economic reasons over moral reason (free labor = more money for owner). So, the Confederate flag represented a separate nation from the United States of America which had no desire to get rid of slavery.
To make a long story short -- the Confederate flag is symbolic of a nation that emphasized the need of enslavement. There may be some discrepancies to this argument, but I think I am going to trust my college level history textbooks over a video on Facebook.
Now, to the real issue: gun control.
We cannot settle for the belief that everything is okay, now that the flag has been taken down in South Carolina. We need more regulations for guns that do not allow mentally unstable people to get ahold of them. There is no way that it can be completely, 100 percent regulated (almost like underage drinking), but if we pass a federal law requiring people to take a mandatory gun safety class if they want to purchase a fire arm, or anything along those lines. It would be a start. It is better than what we have now, which is nothing.
