40 Things Every 20-Something Should Know

10

1. You are not entitled to anything. Unless you are an actual princess and heir to like a million dollars, you get what you earn, just like everyone else.

2. Spend your time nurturing the relationships that matter.

3. Do not waste your time trying to explain yourself to people who are committed to misunderstanding you.

4. Believe in second chances, but trust your gut.

5. Your Apple iPhone charger will give out on you any day now. Make sure you have money at your disposal to go buy a new one.

6. Your head and heart will not always match up. You’ll have to learn which one to ignore and which one to listen to.

7. Don’t cling to people who are toxic for you just because they’re familiar. It’s never worth it.

8. Family is more important than whatever you’re debating ditching them for.

9. There’s always more to the story than what you’re hearing.

10. A lack of passion is fatal. I promise.

11. Don’t eat crappy food. I realize we’re all poor here, but do we really need to be eating McDonald’s three times a day? The answer is no.

12. It is your responsibility to maintain your health; for yourself and for the people who love you.

13. You really don’t need a pet in college.

14. If you become a worse version of yourself when you consume alcohol, don’t consume alcohol.

15. Calling someone else fat won’t make you skinny.

16. You come first, but don’t forget about the people who are affected by your decisions.

17. Don’t skip annual doctor visits.

18. Use your words, not your fists.

19. Your cell phone is probably ruining your life.

20. Don’t be afraid to fall in love. You’re just psyching yourself out.

21. Sitting it out means you’re missing out.

22. There will always be someone who is literally too stupid to insult. As Elsa says, let it go.

23. Find the line between pushover and jerk and build your house there.

24. Don’t tell someone you love them unless you truly mean it.

25. Answer the phone when your grandparents call.

26. Reply to that text if you want to, and delete it if you don’t. This isn’t time out.

27. You can’t buy time. Stop wasting it, and don’t you dare waste other peoples.

28. Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication.

29. Declutter. Your room, your closet, your photos; everything. You’ll thank me later.

30. Make mistakes now instead of later when you have ten times more responsibilities.

31. Manners go a long way.

32. Overcomplicating things only complicates them further.

33. If it ain’t broke, don’t break it.

34. Always try to look your best when you aren’t feeling your best, because it will make you feel better.

35. No, you do not need a credit card for this store.

36. Most people want something from you.

37. Don’t hit the snooze button.

38. Come to terms with your past and thoroughly enjoy your present.

39. Friends are hard to come by. Don’t ignore the people who care for you.

40. It can’t rain forever.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
