To Run or Not to Run?

To Run or Not to Run?

For me, back to school means back to seeing all the runners around UVA.

I’m not quite sure exactly what it is about Charlottesville that seems to give people this unnatural desire to run all the time everywhere, but it’s hard to go an hour without seeing several of these ambitious individuals running down the street.

Some might be inspired by this. Not me. I never get the urge to go on a run, and I can pretty much always come up with an excuse not to go if someone asks me to go with them.

I’ve compiled a list of common excuses not to run. I can’t say that I don’t identify with some of them. So here are a few:

“There are too many hills.”

“It’s just not really my form of exercise.”

“I haven’t eaten, and I don’t wanna run on an empty stomach.”

“I just ate, and I don’t wanna run on a full stomach.”

“It’s hot out.”

“It’s raining.”

“It might rain.”

“It already rained, and there’s a lot of water on the ground.”

“It’s too humid.”

“I hate sweating.”

“I just showered."

“I would have to shower afterwards.”

“I have to do homework.”

“I want to relax since I don’t have a lot of homework today.”

“I woke up too late.”

“I have to be somewhere in two hours, and that’s not enough time.”

"I don't have anyone to run with."

“I don’t want to have to change clothes.”

“All my athletic shorts are dirty.”

“I don’t know where my running shoes are.”

“I don’t own running shoes.”

“My running shoes aren’t cute. I want some new neon ones.”

“I just got Nike Frees, and I don’t want to get them dirty.”

“I ate pretty healthy today — isn’t that enough?”

“I look fine, it’s not worth it.”

“I don’t want people to see me looking gross running.”

I also just wanted to share this hilarious tweet I found a while ago. I think it expresses the feelings of many very clearly: “some ppl just walk out their door and run. like not 2 arbys or anything just like they go for a run. Wtf”—Conor Tripler (@ConorTripler) September 26, 2012.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
