First things first, you should expect for Georgia to win because the University of Louisiana- Monroe is an irrelevant team in the big scheme of things this season. That’s not to say that our Bulldogs will play a perfect game though, especially with some big changes this season.
After Coach Mark Richt’s announcement on Monday that Greyson Lambert will be the Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback for the season opener on Saturday, I think many people were very shocked and might have had some concerns. Why? Well Lambert, a 6-foot-5 junior is a transfer from Virgina, and while he had a good run during his sophomore year with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during the nine games he started for, he has not had the experience with this Geogria team like Brice Ramsey has. Ramsey, the No. 2 quarterback last year, was thought to be the starting quarterback for the beginning of the season, but Lambert proved to be the better choice. Even though Lambert will be starting, that does not mean that Ramsey or Faton Bateau will not be getting any snaps during the game. Luckily for them, this should be an easy game and it should give them a chance to swap quarterbacks in and out to make sure that each of them gets a fair number of snaps. Hopefully after this weeks game, Coach Richt and the rest of the Georgia Bulldogs organization will have a better idea of who should represent Georgia as the starting quarterback this season.
Aside from the quarterback situation, the rest of the team looks ready to go. With an offensive line that has some newer players as well as returning players, they should be able to keep the defense from their quarterback and create a nice pocket for Lambert to work in. The only big change this year on the line is the center position. Last year it was David Andrews, but after he left, the question of who would fill in his shoes began to arouse. Well that question has been answered since the start of camp at the beginning of August. The new center this year will be junior Brandon Kublanow. Kublanow who played as starting left guard last season has been chosen to fill Andrews’ shoes this year at center. As a new center, he might have some mishaps during this season's opener, but with his experience he’ll be able to shake off his nerves quickly and help lead the offensive line like a center should. The strength on the offensive line should make Nick Chubb’s job just a little bit easier and hopefully lead him to a record breaking season once again.
On the other side of the field, our secondary team looks to be just as strong as last year, if not stronger. Even with the absence of Damian Swann, the returning players such as Quincy Mauger, Dominick Sanders, and the newer cornerback Tramel Terry will be a dominant force this year for Georgia’s secondary. They continue to improve every year in the defensive passing game and the three men mentioned above will show you why they are the major leaders and stars for the defense this fall.
It’s finally September, which means it is finally college football season, and the Georgia Bulldogs hope to show the college football world why they have been ranked No. 9 this year, and why they should be ranked even higher by the end of the season. It won’t be an easy season, that’s for sure, but with the amazing coaching staff and experience that Georgia has to offer, it is sure to be an exciting football season. The season opener is this Saturday, September 5th at noon against the University of Louisiana-Monroe in Sanford Stadium- don’t miss it.
