September is here and the pumpkin-flavored frenzy has begun.
Contrary to popular belief, there’s a lot more to celebrate about fall than Starbuck’s pumpkin spice lattes. While the leaves don’t exactly change colors in Texas, here's what there is to be happy about.
1. It’s still hot, but the weather will start cooling off, and that’s something to celebrate. The cooler weather makes it more enjoyable to spend time outside and not get overheated. You’ll probably still want some water and sunscreen though.
2. The heart of Texas – otherwise known as football – is back. Whether you’re purely a college fan or in love with one of the NFL teams, the games and all the activities that come with the games are back. Throw on your jerseys and then enjoy the tailgate.
3. What could be a better way to spend some quality time with your friends than being scared out of your minds? Haunted houses are coming back and will be open near the end of the month. If that's too long of a wait for you, try checking out the Austin Panic Room.
4. Camping – it’s in-tents! As the weather gets cooler it will be more bearable to enjoy some of the best camping options in Hill Country. It’s not just camping either – you’ll get to make s’mores, enjoy bonfires, maybe sing Kumbaya and get away from the city for a little bit.
5. Austin City Limits Festival and the Red River Rivalry. We’ve already covered football a bit, but let’s be honest – this game is a BIG deal. What’s better is you don’t just have to go to the game, but can also experience the Texas State Fair and see some of your friends who made the unfortunate decision to go to OU. October is jammed pack with events and that includes two weeks of ACL. If you don’t already have passes, it’s okay because the fest brought back one-day passes this year. The line-up is pretty solid and as always you’ll be able to find someone you like. If you’re not into the entire festival scene look into the late night shows.
Look at that. We made it through without any mention of pumpkin-flavored drinks. To be fair though, they are delicious!
