What Greeks Do Best

3

This past week on the University of Tennessee's campus was the annual Greek Week: an entire week dedicated to Greek organizations on campus. The week is made up of different events that bring the whole Greek community together for a great cause. The theme was a Jimmy Buffet - a Margaritaville feel with "Just Another Week in Paradise" as the quote on the T-shirt. Each team included a Pan sorority, an IFC fraternity and a multicultural chapter. Also, to go along with the theme, each team name was island-related like Team Bahamas or Team Laguna Beach.
Throughout the week from April 5-11, the Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build was happening just off campus. Panhellenic Council and IFC teamed up to build one house all on our own. Each team had a time frame during the week where they could go to the site and help build the house. Sorority girls with power tools? Sounds scary right?
Well it was actually one of the most fun events of the week for me!
The rest of the week included a volleyball tournament on Fraternity row. Each team had three girls and three guys and it took almost all day on the second day of the week to get through the bracket that included all the teams. There was also a percentage night at Zaxby's, an all Greek photo opportunity in Neyland Stadium, an all Greek worship held by The Cross, and one of the largest cookouts I have ever seen. The line for food was wrapped around FIJI island! During the cookout, there was a very fitting Jimmy Buffet style band playing island tunes while all the chapters mixed and mingled.

Being a junior, this was my third Greek week and every year when it ends my heart is just so full with love of my fellow Greek brothers and sisters. The week is about every chapter, no matter the council, coming together for the greater good. Unlike Homecoming or Carnicus or other competitions Greeks participate in, this one is not rooted in rivalries. Instead, it's just a time that we can all get together, have some fun and do some good.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
