Greek of the Week: Jane-Anna Caldwell

19

Meet Jane-Anna Caldwell, she’s this week’s Greek of the Week!  Jane-Anna is originally from Roanoke, Virginia but decided to make the trek to Vol country for her college experience.  Her major is supply chain management and she will be accepting an internship with the Lifeway distribution center in Lebanon, TN this summer to further her studies.

Jane-Anna is currently a sophomore member of the Delta Gamma sorority here on campus and holds a position within the organization.  She is acting vice president of foundation for Delta Gamma.  This requires Jane-Anna to handle all of DG’s affairs regarding their philanthropy, Service for Sight.  Jane-Anna says that this position is just as rewarding as it is fun.

In fact, Jane-Anna just finished hosting an exciting event at the AMB yesterday.  This event consisted of an information session to learn about a part of Delta Gamma’s philanthropy, Club Vibes.  Club Vibes stands for Visually Impaired/Blind Enhanced Services and Jane-Anna’s successful info session highlighted all of the activities this organization is involved with and how they operate.  Jane-Anna said that the event went extremely well and that everyone who attended had an awesome time!

Since Jane-Anna works so close with Delta Gamma’s philanthropy, we asker her how this position has impacted her life at UT.  She said, “I have been really grateful for this position and the opportunities it has given me.  It has made me grateful for the things I have in my life after seeing the way blind people have to live their lives.  Foundation has also helped me with my organizational skills."

Aside from being busy with her DG position, Jane-Anna is also very closely involved with the For the Kids charity and the peer mentor program here at the university.  She is also planning Delta Gamma’s first spring philanthropy event!  Usually, the women of Delta Gamma just hold their annual Anchor Splash week in the fall, but this year Jane-Anna is switching things up and adding another event.  The new event, “Delta Jamma,” will be held on April 12th and feature a DJ, a lot of barbeque, and good times.  All of the proceeds from this event will go towards the Delta Gamma Foundation.

As for the future, Jane-Anna hopes to continue her education here at UT, graduate, and eventually go to work for a major non-profit organization.  Jane-Anna has a great attitude towards life and always looks on the positive side.  She is a hard working, strong individual and is always willing to lend a helping hand.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
