What Would We Have Done?

What would we have done without all of the things we have in our lives?

What Would We Have Done?

Have you ever thought what you would have done living your life without certain things? For example: homes, coffee, jobs that take up our entire day and cars. I just try and picture my life without some of these things and it is very difficult.

It’s hard to imagine that a couple thousand years ago, Neanderthals were running around with no 3,000 square foot homes, no BMW’s or no Louis Vuitton purses to put their picked plants in. Sometimes I think that it is a little ridiculous as to how much we rely on things such as our phones, computers and materialistic things. The world was just fine without them, and yet we don’t know how to survive without them.

According to a study done by Stephen Willard in the Elite Daily, “A new research suggests that people, on average, check their phones every six-and-a-half minutes.”

You’re probably sitting there thinking that there is no way. But think again, you know that you check your phone in awkward conversations, while you’re walking down the street so you look like you’re not actually alone, or checking every couple seconds to make sure the guy you like hasn’t responded yet. It is so true.

I’m sitting here trying to find out who in the world doesn’t use a phone, and nothing comes up except for people who don’t use a phone while driving. How strange is it, that phones are fairly new, and yet people have them super glued to their hand, and literally freak out when it’s not.

What if there were no grocery stores to buy our food at? Now farmers, I tip my hat to you because I have no clue what I would do if I had to pick my food from fields or plants. What if you had to grow your own fruits and vegetables, and that was the main source. Rather, we drive to the grocery store in our Lululemon's, and go fill up the list of things we need that are presented right in front of us.

What if there were no cars, public transportation units or bikes to get us around everyday? It is seriously so crazy to think that those didn’t exist just a little while back.

Now that you’re thinking about it, there are probably so many things we use daily that we don’t even think twice about. I was just daydreaming the other day and thinking, “geez, what if I didn’t have any of the things I have?”  We should take a second out of our busy days and just realize how lucky we are, and not to take the convenience for granted. Everything is basically presented to us, and we have access to so much. We must use it correctly, and still work for things!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
