Grab your white cheddar popcorn and 32 ounce soft drink -- you're in for the trip of your life.
We are deprived and should no longer have to survive without this glorified gas station.
For those of you who don’t know what QuikTrip is, you have you been missing out. Some people would say
it’s a glorified gas station, but Tulsa natives know it is way more than that.
With humble beginnings, the first store opened in downtown Tulsa on September
25, 1958. It was a small gas station accompanied by its equally small retail
store. Eventually, the store grew to what it is today -- a necessity to many and
one of the Top 100 Best Companies To Work For, according to Fortune Magazine.
QuikTrip has so much more to offer than just coffee and snacks. Let’s start with the
drinks: it has coffee stations, with about six different types of coffee, accompanied by their iced coffee machines. Add a fresh donut from their
displays for a total of less than $2. Next to that are the slushee
machines and the fountain drinks that come in all different sizes, from child-sized to their near gallon jugs. In the summer, the 32 ounce drinks are
only $.79. They’re a must-grab before any road trip, day by the pool or
work.
Let’s move onto the food, glorious food. They have every type of
snack food you could dream of and grill stations with hot dogs, taquitos, corn
dogs, sausage rolls, and more. In 2005, the QuikTrip Kitchen Commissary opened. It’s
a made to order commissary with pizza, sandwiches, salads, wraps and shakes.
During lunchtime, QuikTrip is always busy with people running in and out
grabbing ready-made pizzas and cheap drinks.
Let’s not forget about QuikTrip's little convenience area. There’s a small section of microwavable mac and
cheese, ravioli, medicine, paper towels, cups, plates, and even small
electronics for your car. It’s incredible all these things fit into this little
store.
Another reason it’s so popular, is the truth is in it’s name: QuikTrip
is quick. The employees are trained to be quick and efficient. They have to be
able to check someone out in a matter of seconds and they always do it with
ease. Before you know it, you’ve paid and an employee is yelling, “See you
tomorrow!” while you walk out the door. It’s a friendly, fast-paced environment
and I have never had a bad experience there. True, at OU we do 7-11, but I think it’s safe to say that if a QuikTrip was placed in Norman,
students would question how they have ever lived without the wonder that is QT.
