Why I Love This Place
Start writing a post

There is a lot to be said about my university. The University of Oklahoma has many aspects that make it notable and outstanding. I could throw out statistics -- like our  seven national titles in college football, or talk about our impressive alumni -- such as Carl Albert. But, that isn't all there is to my university. Let me back up for a second and describe my background.

I grew up in Norman and have always had the University of Oklahoma involved in some aspect of my life. My mom has worked here for a long time. Some of my best memories center around the University, so you could say I am homegrown. Most people think that this was my first choice to attend college. Truth is, it wasn't. My heart was set on attending a military academy, and despite the heartbreak of not being accepted to one, I am happy that I ended up here. It was truly God's plan and it is what it is. No regrets.

Even before I was in Greek life, seeing as I rushed in the spring, I loved this place from my first day. Getting up in the morning to workout with ROTC, I have seen a lot more of this campus than many students. I have seen the Biz at sunrise on the south oval, and the inside of Memorial Stadium before most people are even awake. There were a few points when I even gotten to roll around in the grass on the North Oval and run through a few fountains late at night. Let me tell you, this is a beautiful campus.

However, the aesthetics of campus are not the only reason why I love this place. There is so much opportunity for anyone who wants it. Anything I want to be a part of is attainable with hard work and dedication. The meticulous spirit of the university, as well as the countless opportunities to set me up for success, is everything I could ask for in a college. Anytime I have a rough day, all I have to do is look back and consider why I love it so much here. From the Greek life, to the traditions, to game day -- this place truly feels like its own universe. It is my home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
