It is October, so all movies that will be campaigning for the top awards at the Oscars will start being released from now until the end of the year. There are so many big contenders this year, so if you love movies you will be in for a treat.
5. Foxcatcher. This movie stars Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell, but don’t
think that this will be a comedy. The
movie has Tatum depicting the true story surrounding Mark Schultz, an Olympic
wrestling champion. Since it’s a true
story you can look up the plot based on the real events to find out what
happens, but it looks like Carrell will be a big contender for the best actor
nomination.
4.Interstellar.When a wormhole is discovered in space with a chance of
saving humanity, a widowed engineer, Matthew McConaughey, has to leave behind
his two children to go on the voyage. After Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy failed to earn him a best director nomination, it looks like he’ll be trying the science fiction route to
claim what he deserves. With a cast of
multiple Oscar winning and nominated actors, it’s a good bet for best picture, as well.
3. The Imitation Game. For anyone who is a big fan of BBC’s Sherlock, check out this movie. Benedict Cumberbatch portrays British mathematician, Alan Turing, who
helped crack the Nazi’s codes in WW II. Cumberbatch is said to give one of the best acting portrayals of the
generation. I won’t spoil it for you,
but this movie will be showing some of the shocking laws in Britain’s
past. It should be a bright realization
as to how far modern nations have come.
2. Birdman. You may not have heard of this film, but it is
becoming a pretty big deal at this year’s film festivals. It’s a black comedy that seems to have a lot
of parallels with real life. The film
has Michael Keaton as a washed up actor who only gained fame for playing an
iconic superhero, Birdman. But now he
wants to make a comeback and will be reestablishing himself in a Broadway play. This is an interesting choice for Michael
Keaton who played Batman in the ‘80s, however this movie has gotten some
serious buzz. Early critics are already
calling for best picture, best actor and best supporting actor
nominations.
1. Gone Girl . To say this
movie has a lot of buzz around it does not do it any justice. From the acclaimed book to the film, Gone Girl has captivated audiences.
Director David Fincher and his all-star cast, have received astonishing reviews,
some are already calling it a classic. Rosamund Pike is a favorite to win the best actress nomination while the
film is also a shoe-in for best picture, best screenplay and best director
nominations.
