Here are some tips that will make over-achieving in college a breeze.
College can be a time where you have too many tasks and not enough time. There are a few ways you can ensure that you aren't stressed out all the time.
Sleep. In college it is difficult to catch up on sleep; however, you should strive to get at least 6 hours every night. Being sleep deprived while juggling classes, extra-curricular activities and jobs will only waste your time. It is proven that your brain will not be able to properly function during the day if you do not give it enough time to rest.
Stress relief. Finding an outlet or activity that calms you down when you’re stressed out is necessary for emotional health. For example, I like to go on a run when stuff hits the fan. Make your body accustomed to a specific activity and it will become a calming habit that you can rely on when the going gets tough.
Power-Down. Taking time to relax and recharge is important to preventing job burn out. On Saturdays, try to not think about work-related issues, checking email or working on projects and, instead, socialize with friends or pick up a new hobby.
Stay Present. When you're at your internship, only do work for your internship. When you're at home, only do your homework. When you're at an on-campus organization, only do work for that organization... You get the picture! This will keep your advisers and peers happy because you are paying full attention to the work at-hand.
Don’t Make To-Do Lists. Instead of making to-do lists, schedule time to complete tasks. I tend to set up alarms on my phone throughout my days as reminders to do specific projects hours before approaching deadlines.
Quit. If things get too overwhelming it is completely fine to raise your hand and tell your managers/peers/advisers that you have too much on your plate. People will appreciate your honesty and give you more slack if you are unable to complete projects on time.
