Rainy Day Blues

9

Oklahoma always has unusual weather, so learn to take advantage of the random torrential downpours.

Recently in Oklahoma, a cold front made its way through our state. During a month that is usually blistering hot, this cooler, stormier weather is a nice change of pace. Since Oklahomans would normally be sweating in front of a window unit during this month, it’s time best to make the most of this stormy weather.

I remember, as a kid, hating the rain because I couldn’t go outside and play. Now as a 20-something adult, the rain is my favorite kind of weather. There are so many things you can do when it’s rainy and cold outside. First, you can grab that book you’ve been neglecting, go to your local coffee shop and enjoy your afternoon getting lost in a story. There’s nothing more satisfying than finishing a book, especially when you’re curled up with a coffee or hot chocolate.

Invite your friends over for a much needed, relaxing movie day. Pop in those sequels that take most of the day to watch Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Let yourself geek out over the magnificence of Rowling and Tolkien.

Try out some of those recipes that you’ve been too busy to make. I recommend making a pie and its crust from scratch. It’s very time consuming but totally worth it when it’s done. You can even ask your friends to bring a dish over and have a fun potluck dinner, if you’re not the cooking type.

Go back to your younger days and spend the day making a blanket and pillow fort with your friends. It’s actually incredibly fun and if you have some control freaks in your friend group, the fort will look even better because you know they will want it to be perfect. Then, spend the day getting lost in the fort, playing card games, watching movies or telling scary ghost stories.

Being inside has thousands of things to offer so why not take advantage of these rare, rainy days?

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
