The Oklahoma Group

Have you heard about a student organization at OU called, The Oklahoma Group?

TOG, as it is affectionately called, is the premier student-led consulting organization providing pro bono services to nonprofits in central Oklahoma. Non-profits from the Norman and Oklahoma City area, that need help, apply to TOG and students spend the semester coming up with ways to help solve their problems.

Students are divided into teams and, just like professional consulting organizations, they start out by brainstorming possible solutions. Then they research the various possible solutions to see if those are viable options. The solutions that are implemented are based on the research data that is gathered. There are monthly progress reviews, where the teams present what they have been working on to the rest of TOG, and a panel of advisors provides input. They also have weekly trainings where various speakers come and speak about the world of nonprofits. Near the end of the year, teams will present their solutions to their non-profits.

TOG isn’t just all work and no play. TOG is a family that works together to help local non-profits so that they can continue to serve the community and environment. As a family, TOG has many fun events, including weekly burger nights, karaoke and trivia nights, going to trampoline parks or go kart racetracks, murder mystery parties, cookouts, tennis outings, and board game nights. The culture of TOG is one where students work hard to help out the community, while having fun and fostering relationships. Some of the non-profits that TOG has worked with are City Rescue Mission, Second Chance Animal Sanctuary, Norman Meals on Wheels, YWCA OKC, and the Girls Scouts of Western Oklahoma.
If this sounds like an organization that you would like to be apart of, this is the perfect time to hear about it! The TOG open house is Oct 7 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Wagner 140. Show up if you want to hear more about TOG. Also, applications have just come out here. This is a great organization to be part of, so apply!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
