Day 4: The Parade

18
My European Adventures: Day 4

After getting hit by a firework, I was done with the suburbs of Zurich. So we went to Zurich proper.  Even though it was the day after their national holiday, there was a parade in the streets of Zurich. So we began our search for the parade.

Because of the parade, there were so many people walking through the streets of Zurich. We could never figure out what the theme was for the costumes people were wearing, or if there even was a theme. People wore any costume they wanted. It was pretty much Halloween. We didn't know where the parade was, so we just followed the crowd of people. There were also many food kiosks on the side of the street, so we got Indian food from one of those.

When we finally found the parade, it was a peculiar sight. The parade was just one car blasting loud music with old people dancing on it. It moved through the streets slowly because of how many people there were, but that was it, just one car with old people on it. As we headed back to the train station, we also saw a few concert stages that played electronic music.

After this disappointment, we headed back to the train station to buy groceries and dinner for the train ride. We lost track of time and barely made our train to Paris. Our dinner on the train consisted, again, of bread, cheese and salami. That was the easiest and cheapest food to buy and eat on the go.

After getting to Paris at 10:30 p.m., we found our apartment at 11 p.m. There was a passcode to get into the apartment complex that the guy neglected to tell us. Now, this was an issue, but I accepted the challenge. I had to think like Sherlock and decipher the code to the apartment. I analyzed the buttons on the passcode lock and found that six of the numbers seemed more worn out than the others. Therefore, I deduced that it was a six-digit code and I knew which numbers would be in the code. I then analyzed the email we received from the guy to get a grasp on his personality. After noticing that his messages were all very straightforward and direct, I started guessing easy patterns with the six digits. On the third try, I got the code right when I tried the six digits in reverse order from highest to lowest. My friends were amazed by my abilities, until they read the email again and saw that the code was mentioned in one of the messages.

Our apartment was a 10' by 10' room with a bed and a pull-out bed, a 5' by 5' bathroom and a 5' by 5' kitchen area. When both of the beds were set up, there was barely any room to walk around, but it was a place to stay. However, the wi-fi did not work, so we went to a McDonald’s down the street to mooch off theirs. By then, it was midnight and we were going to go to a club, but it was a Monday night and we were tired, so we just went to sleep in our one room apartment.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
