Transitioning back into school can be difficult, but here's how to make it through. I know from experience that the harsher the weather, the harder the classes.
No matter what part of the country you’re in, summertime is always one of the best times of the year. Summer nights filled with bonfires and bonding, followed by hot, lazy days spent cooling off by the pool: just relaxation all around. So I was surprised at all of the college students who actually had the motivation to give their summers up to return to their educational studies. Kudos to you guys - you rock.
Now that we are all getting back into the swing of things in the lovely month of September, the heat isn’t as enticing as it once was. Quite frankly, it should be fall. The heat is unbearable, and girls are running out of oversized t-shirts and Nike shorts combinations to wear to class. So what to do? Instead of letting the heat wear me down, I decided to channel my hate into my writing, and talk about ways that people can get ready for the fall season.
1. Switch up your coffee order. One way you can mentally prep yourself for fall is by realizing how many people will get insanely excited for two Starbucks drinks, which are the pumpkin spice latte (also marketed as the 'PSL' in 2013) and the salted caramel mocha. Fall is a great time to switch your daily Cup of Joe over from iced to hot, and what better way to do that than with seasonal beverages offered at Starbucks for a limited time? I like to experiment with all the different hot beverage options that are out there, being a barista and all. So when it finally becomes fall, treat yourself to a Starbucks, because you're awesome and you deserve it.
2. Get pumped for sports. Attending a public university won't guarantee that everyone on campus will be gung ho about sports, but you most certainly can be! Lots of sports are free if you show your student ID, and this includes soccer, volleyball, rowing, cross-country, along with various intramural teams. Support your school and have fun doing it by making it an outing with your Greek or non-Greek friends! You may find that you will take a liking to a sport that you wouldn't have considered following before. And of course, it wouldn’t be fall without tailgating and football.
3. Get some cozy new music. To be able to fully embrace fall, I find it enjoyable to go through all of my music on my laptop and phone to update my music library. It's a good time to remove those once-catchy number one songs of the spring, because they're probably overplayed at this point. You can ask your friends for their recommendations on music, as well. This is because there isn't a single person I know who wouldn't give their honest opinion on an artist or album. Music makes for amazing conversation, so it's a good way to reconnect with your friends. Personally, the music I play either matches my mood or the weather outside. More acoustic-oriented artists will be suiting for fall, like John Mayer, so you should definitely spend some time updating your music.
Other reasons to get excited for fall include, but aren't limited to, the following reasons: significant drop in outdoor temperature, the changing colors outside, leaves falling on the ground, touchdowns in football, Halloween, Thanksgiving, homecoming, et cetera. You hopefully understand what I am trying to say here: fall is an exciting time to be alive while being a twenty-something in college. Although we had fun 'probably getting gorgeously tan in summer,' I think most people can agree that we are ready to usher in the fall season, and now you can do it properly.
