It is no secret that college is overwhelming at first. There are a million
things to do at once and definitely not enough time in the day. Classes start
to get harder, exams and projects are never ending, and pulling an all-nighter
becomes a common occurrence. Speaking on behalf of most college students,
it is pretty easy to fall behind in classes, or let the stress get the best of you. We all can agree --Â everyone has a million other things to
focus on besides just school and classes. Â
How does one effortlessly balance both school and play? Although that may seem like an impossible task, the key to
success involves a lot of motivation, organization, and coffee. One thing many students don’t understand is that to truly be
successful, which everyone can be, you have to start early. It seems as if most of us, myself included, pray
and hope that good grades will magically appear at the end of the semester
without having to actually work for it from start to finish. Â
Instead of getting in the habit of procrastination, get
in a routine that will set you up for a successful semester from the very
beginning. Plan ahead. When professors give out the syllabus, use that
as an opportunity to map out all that you need to do for that class, including
homework assignments, exams and projects.Â
It is important to communicate with your professors when
the semester starts. If you have any questions or concerns, come to your
professor and establish a relationship. This will also help
you out if you have a borderline grade in the end, trust me.Â
Don’t forget to utilize OU’s resources, as well! Take
advantage of the writing center, tutoring sessions, and career fairs. These
will push you to take that extra step to get ahead.Â
Remember, anyone
can be successful. If you keep motivated, plan ahead, and start early, you will
see noticeable changes for the better!
