Why Dogs Are Our Best Friends

Four waggin' ways that dogs make the world a better place.

Why Dogs Are Our Best Friends

There are some people who claim they are not "dog people." Those people are wrong.

Now I am not saying that every single person in the world has to adopt and love mankind's furry best friend; I just find it inconceivable that someone could look at a dog - any dog - and dislike it.

Ever since I was a wee little one I have been head over heels for pooches of any breed. At one point during my childhood my grandpa owned seven dogs, which made the desire for a puppy of my own even stronger.

My parents tried their hardest to avoid adopting a dog for me and my sisters. We had everything from pet mice to bunny rabbits - which are a lot harder to take care of than dogs, in my opinion - before we finally got our own four-legged friend.

Since that fateful day when we adopted our first dog, we have had three others and they each hold a special place in my heart. Enough about my dog love story; let me tell you a couple reasons why dogs truly can be everyone's' best friend.

They Are Always In a Good Mood

Dogs are always happy. They are happy to see you, happy to be fed, happy to go on a walk, happy to cuddle. Get the point? If you are having a bad day, dogs seem to inherently know and will follow you around trying to make you feel better.

Dogs do not ask for anything in return and they are the best listeners. They are always up for whatever you are up for because they know how to be spontaneous and live life on the edge. Dogs don't have to worry about doing well in school or getting a job, so they are the literal personification of happiness.

They Don't Discriminate

Has your dog ever judged you for your past? No. Dogs do not care what walk of life you come from, they only care that you take them on walks regularly. They come in all breeds and sizes and realize that we do too!

They Make for Great Accountability Partners

Dogs will make sure you work out every day, i.e. take them on walks. If I was more of a creature of habit like dogs are, I feel like I would stick to what I say I am going to do without fail. Like I said earlier, dogs don't have the stresses of life weighing them down like most humans do, so they are more focused on the better things in life.

Your dog will make sure you have fun every once in a while by taking them to the park or by simply seeing the light of day.

They Love You Unconditionally

This point goes hand-in-hand with the fact that dogs do not discriminate. It does not matter how many times you forget to take them on a walk or give them an extra treat with dinner; dogs will love you through thick and thin. The reason why dogs are titled "man's best friend" is because they are selfless and loving despite any fault on your part. They are quick to forgive and even quicker to love without expecting anything in return.

If these reasons have not converted you to the pro-dog side, I do not know if there is anything anyone can do to help you. Although I joke about people that don't love the world's puppy pals, I am completely serious about why dogs make for the best of friends. Even if you don't have the means to adopt your own dog, go visit the Stillwater Humane Society and volunteer your time loving on the animals with the biggest hearts in the world.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
