I am a Christian and I Love Christian Grey

Christian Grey and his 50 shades!

I am a Christian and I Love Christian Grey

For the past week, the box office has been booming with the sales of tickets for the movie 50 Shades of Grey. The movie has has sold more opening day tickets than any movie before. The book series sold more than 200 million copies. With the massive popularity of this movie, there has been a huge controversy over the sexual scenes, domination, and “abuse” Anastasia Steele endures.

For those of you who have read all of the books before seeing the movie, you will look so much further into the motion picture itself. I have read multiple articles published on Facebook, and seen many television shows talking about the controversy 50 Shades of Grey is causing. Well, I am here to tell you -- I am a Christian, I have read all of the books, seen the movie, and to me there is nothing wrong with Christian Grey.

In the society we live in, everywhere you turn there is booze, foul language, drugs, and sex. Most rap songs talk along the lines of drug, sex, and money. Being a Christian, you have to look past it. You are placed in a society where this is acceptable, so I have learned to look past the foul parts and deeper meanings.

I read all three books pretty quickly. You could say I was pretty into them, not because of the dominance or sex, but because "50 Shades of Grey" tells a story that you could see in everyday life. "50 Shades of Grey" is about a child who lost his mother at a very young. His mother was a “crack whore,” and he had a rough start in life. He was adopted into a family, where at age 15 he was seduced into a submissive/dominant relationship by one of his mother’s friends. He grows up thinking this life is normal, until he meets Anastasia.

When reading this book, I was able to look past the sex, which is the reason most people read the book; I see a guy who grew up in a hard life. Christian made something of himself, and when the money and fame were not enough, he changed his entire life for a girl. He changed everything he grew up knowing, and everything that people down this book and movie for -- a girl.

I have read multiple articles about why, as a Christian, I should not see or read 50 Shades of Grey. I have also read several articles that tell me why as a child or young adult I should not read these books because I should not think that sex and dominance, or abuse in a relationship is okay. I do not look at 50 Shades of Grey that way.

After I read the book, I would never ask someone to tie me up, allow someone to spank me, or place myself in a dominant/submissive relationship. I looked past all of that at this amazing love story, a story most of us hope for growing up, finding a boy who loves you so much he changes his entire world for you. Christian loves her so much, he worries for her every second of every day. He loves her so much he would fly across the country to be with her. He loves her so much that even though he thinks he will be an awful father, he gives her kids. Christian gave Anastasia a world she could only dream of; he gave her love, life, and a family.

If you had taken the time to read "50 Shades" you would see that the first book and movie is strictly background knowledge on the couple and their life. You have not begun to witness the love story behind Mr. Grey and his 50 shades.

So judge me if you wish, but I am here to tell you why as a 20-year-old Christian I am okay with 50 Shades and Christian Grey. Not everyone who reads this book will see it as the love story I do, but as a Christian I read the books and was able to look past the lust and at the love.

As I was reading the books, seeing the movie, and talking about this article, one of my friends gave a very good point that I'll share. "I love the part about him giving up everything he knew as normal for someone he loved with all his heart. Ultimately, his story is the same story that so many Christians have. They come from a life of sin. They have allowed sin to dominate every part of their lives. But then they meet innocence. The innocence of Christ that none of us deserve. 50 Shades portrays that indirectly. It shows someone, who doesn't deserve the love he receives from his family, and from Ana, fall into love. They wrap their arms around him, and all his 50 shades of you know what and he learns to accept it. Christian ultimately learns to receive all the love that he feels so unworthy of -- just as sinners have to receive the love of Christ."

As a Christian, this is why I decided 50 Shades of Grey was appropriate for me.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
