4. Green Beer Day
Since St. Patrick's Day falls on our spring break, Miami students had to come up with a way to celebrate the holiday and the tradition has become one of the biggest days in Oxford. In fact, our GBD is so great that several other Ohio schools have come up with similar celebrations. Many local news stations travel to Oxford each year to cover the event on air and it is definitely worth watching.Â
Bars open their doors around 5:30 a.m. so students can get the day started bright and early with some cold green beer. Many party-goers wake up even earlier and pre-game the bars by attending house parties at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Most professors continue to operate on a normal schedule, but this doesn't stop Miami students from going out all day long and only briefly slowing down to attend class.Â
3. The Academics
Known as "Ohio's Public Ivy", Miami has been nationally ranked for academics for years. We have the #1 return on investment in Ohio and are #3 on the U.S. News & World Report 2012 list of "America's Best Colleges".Â
Additionally, 91% of our graduates are employed or in graduate school within one year of graduation. We are proud of our Farmer School of Business for consistently ranking in the top 25 undergraduate business programs according to BusinessWeek.Â
One of Miami's awesome academic amenities is King Library, which houses three floors and a large number of quiet study rooms. Inside King is the Howe Writing Center, where students can meet with a trained adviser who will assist students in revising essays, resumes, and other written assignments.Â
2. The Campus
There's a reason Robert Frost called it "the most beautiful campus that ever there was." The matching red brick buildings and sprawling grassy quads make Miami unlike any other school.Â
Our beautiful, brand new multi-million dollar student center houses several club offices and food options and our rec center contains an Olympic-sized pool, suspended indoor track, and three basketball courts. Furthermore, just outside of the hustle and bustle of the dorms and academic buildings is Uptown Oxford, which is perhaps the greatest part of the campus.Â
High Street features approximately a dozen bars on a one-mile stretch and you can find anything from large nightclubs to smaller hole-in-the-wall bars. In addition to the bars, we have a wide array of delicious restaurants that are Oxford-exclusive. You can find all sorts of ethnic food to match whatever you might be craving, including German, Italian, Indian, Mexican, and Asian.Â
1. The Students
It's no secret that Miami is known for it's beautiful student body. Any countdown you find online is bound to have MU listed as #1 for hottest girls, and those statistics can be proven within five minutes of being on campus. Not only are our students the best looking, but we also take pride in the way we dress even if we're only going to the library. Students from other universities may criticize us for being image-obsessed, but when did it become a bad thing to look good?Â
