Who Won on the Best Super Bowl Prop Bets
daily snark

Since Refrigerator Perry's touchdown in the Bear's blowout Super Bowl win against the Patriots, prop bets have become a core feature of Super Bowl traditions that range from office pool squares, sour cream french dip, lucrative halftime shows, high ticket prices, and high-quality commercials. A prop is a bet regarding the occurrence or nonoccurrence of something during game but many of these occurrences do not directly impact the game.

When you are a fan who doesn’t have a favorite team to root for, or you can’t decide to bet the Panthers, giving 5.5 points prop bets is the perfect alternative. During the Super Bowl, people marveled at the stunning play of the Broncos defense. People commented on how Peyton Manning tried to hand the Panthers the game. People are glued to the storyline of Cam Newton being human. However, many people in the sports book had their eyes glued on some of these prop bets. Many of these a prop bets are often ridiculous, but a lot of them are entertaining to keep track of. Some of these prop bets are so weird that they are worth keeping track of, even if you do not have any money wagered on it.

Over 4 billion dollars worth of wagers were bet on Super Bowl 50, and an estimated 1 billion of those were bet on prop bets, via the Las Vegas Gambling Association. So what did people win and lose on some of these ridiculous wagers?

1. Coin Toss Results?

The coin toss is the only bet in Vegas when you have true 50/50 chance to win. The coin toss is the perfect wager for a friendly bet with a one of your friends before kick off. You can bet whether the opening coin toss will be heads or tails at 1 to 1 odds. Should the Bronco's captains call head or tails?

Result: The coin toss ended up being tails, and the Panthers won the toss, choosing to differ.

2. Cam Newton Dabbing during the Super Bowl Over/Under 10 Times

Cam Newton is responsible in making the DAB the biggest social craze during football season. Newton dabbing antics will have America’s youth dabbing along with him during the Super Bowl - and no I’m not the talking about that type of dabbing. Newton has been criticized for being obsessive and unprofessional for his dabbing antics. However, those critics just don’t know how to have fun. Cam Newton has dabbed over his opponents all season long, whether it be after scoring a touchdown or getting a first down. 10 times seems like a lot, but in the biggest game of his career, Newton may have his best dabbing performance.

Result: Cam Newton dabbed plenty of times during the pregame music. However, Newton did not dab once during the game. After being sacked 7 times and being stripped twice, Newton did not have much to dance about during this Super Bowl.

3. What will be Coldplay’s first song during the halftime show?

Many people were surprised when the 7 time Grammy award winning British band Coldplay was chosen to perform the halftime show. During the performance the band was expected to perform 6 songs, and here are the odds of those songs being the band’s opening number: Adventure of a Lifetime (2/1), Fix You (7/2), A Sky Full of Stars (9/2), Clocks (15/2), Speed of Sound (9/1), Head Full of Dreams (10/1), Paradise (10/1).

Result: Cold Play ended up playing Viva La Vida for their opening number during Sunday's halftime show.

4. What color gatorade will be dumped on the winning coach (orange, blue, clear, green, red, yellow, purple)

As far as the best Gatorade color Gatorade goes, I have personally always been a red fan. In the NFC Championship Ron Riveria got a bath in orange Gatorade. However, is that a good enough clue? Last year, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was soaked in blue Gatorade after his big win.

Result: Orange.

5. Will there be an earthquake during the game? Odds 10/1

You may have to be insane to root for an earthquake during the Super Bowl. Even when the game is being played in Santa Clara, where it's known to frequent seismic activity, predicting an earthquake within a three hour time period is extremely far fetched. However, we have seen weird things happen during the big game. In 2012 the Superdome in New Orleans suffered a power outage during the third quarter of Super Bowl 46. If an earthquake were to happen, it would not be the first time an earthquake occurred during a sports championship game in the Bay; referencing the the Quake of the 1989 World Series between the A’s and Giants.

Result: During Sunday's Super Bowl there was not an earthquake recorded in the Santa Clara/San Francisco area. So the insane people who were hoping for an earthquake during the big game were not able to get the big payout they were hoping for.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
