Tackling A Cure

Zeta Xi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha will host a football game on Oct. 30, called Tackling A Cure, sponsored with Georgia Southern Athletics. October is breast cancer awareness month and Georgia Southern's games air on ESPN on Thursday nights, so this is a great opportunity to increase awareness and involve more students in an awesome event.

President of Zeta Tau Alpha, Ashley Landry, said, "I am thrilled that ZTA is able to partner with Georgia Southern Athletics for our Tackling A Cure football game this fall. We have enjoyed partnering with GSU Athletics, in the past, for our Pack the House in Pink basketball game and we are looking forward to this new partnership. This has been an incredible opportunity for ZTA and we could not be more excited!"

Although sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are used to a national partnership with the NFL, never before has ZTA been able to spread awareness in the "prettiest little stadium in America," also known as Paulson Stadium. The opportunities are endless for raising money for breast cancer research. Selling pink t-shirts, pink pompoms, raffles, and even having donation centers set up, will make it easy for the fans of Georgia Southern to truly make an impact. The sisters of ZTA will also have educational tables set up to pass out pamphlets about getting checked and will pass out pink ribbons for people to proudly wear.

According to American Cancer Society, "breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 36."

Everyone knows someone whose life has been tragically taken by breast cancer, someone who is fighting the cancer, or someone who is a survivor of breast cancer.

Please come out and show support for the Eagles and for the women fighting this disease. Through Tackling A Cure, the entire Statesboro community can come together and aid in the efforts to, one da,y find a cure for breast cancer.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
