How Having a Little Changes Everything

Getting a little is a big change. You're no longer the baby of the family. You need time to adjust.

How Having a Little Changes Everything

This is my second year being in a sorority, and I’ve realized that there is nothing like getting a little. As a result, there have been changes in my behavior - just from the realization that I am not the baby in the family anymore.

1. How am I not the bottom of the family stack anymore?

2. I really wish I was taller, because my little does not squat low enough. Come on ladies, feel the burn we all had to do it.

3. OMG I HAVE A LITTLE (constantly being reminded of in my head).

4. The fact that now I am watching all the boys who try to talk to my little, because she obviously cannot protect herself from these preying older boys. Boys, remember the bigs are always watching our babies.

5. Randomly feeling old and the thought of being a grandbig next year brings tears to my eyes. I mean, can’t I just be in college forever (without the school part of course)?

6. Oh the bank account is always fun to look at after getting a little. I mean little, I love you, but you stole all of my money.

7. Going out to a party and yelling “LITTLE” to get her attention ... and literally 8 people think you're talking to them too. Sorry but you don’t have a name anymore. It’s "little" from now on.

8. All of the “big like little” moments are more prevalent, and you don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

9. Your Instagram being taken over by pictures of you and your little. There’s nothing better than seeing 500 Insta posts of the same pose with a different filter.

10. Coming to the realization that no one will mean the same to you as your little.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
