Friday, June 26, 2015: Same-sex marriage legalized nationwide

#LOVEWON

On Friday, June 26th, I woke up a little later than usual.

On Friday, June 26th, the first thing I did that morning was check my phone and the last thing I expected to see was that same-sex marriage had been legalized nationwide.

But on Friday, June 26th, It happened.

Friday, June 26, 2015. A historical day for America. A historical day for love. A historical day our children will grow up reading about in history books as a victory for the evolution and equality of the human race.

Now, America is not limited to an Adam and Eve relationship, but an Adam and Steve relationship if one chooses.
After nearly 50 years of fighting society, fighting each other, and fighting the legal system, same- sex marriage has been legalized in all50 states! #LoveHasWon

First, I would like to start off by saying how completely overwhelmed with joy and happiness I am today. Mostly because I have a lot of close friends and family in the LGBTIA community and their happiness has brought happiness to me. Regardless of how others may feel towards it, people across the nation can't help but share the love with their friends and family who can finally celebrate and live in peace and happiness with the one they love.
How could you be angry with the happiness of your loved ones?

Secondly, while I'm aware this topic of discussion can get a bit messy and has stirred up a lot of controversy, I set out for some responses, comments, and opinions from others about this story so you wouldn't have to.
While most of the comments and posts I have received regarding same- sex marriage equality were positive, emotional, and happy responses, there were of course also some not so exciting responses.

Here's what people had to say!

-Note: Due to the topic of gay rights being one of sensitivity, some of the people interviewed for this article have asked to stay anonymous in order to protect themselves and their views on this topic.-

Kaira Wheeler: "My entire life I've argued for same sex marriage equality, hoping that someday I'll be able to marry the person I love without strings attached. I was called names and laughed at for having such unattainable aspirations, but today I cried happy tears for not only myself but for hundreds of thousands of LGBTQIA citizens that will be accepted and recognized with the same rights their peers have. Today is one of the best days of my life, and one I'm sure I'll remember forever."

Anthony Alcides Verrastro: "This is surely an amazing day in history, no matter what perspective you're looking at it from. Now that same sex marriage is legal, so many more people will be able to finally have benefits and the love they deserve; however, there is still more to be done for the LGBTQIA community and the nation as a whole. There are still 35 states that do not give protection to those in the LGBTQIA community, for example, if somebody registers under LGBTQIA they can lose their job and not win a legal fight against it. So, as happy as I am for everybody in the LGBTQIA, I hope that complacency does not ruin the strong, continuing path to equality that has been taking place since the Stonewall Uprising in 1969."

Anonymous 1: "I am completely okay with gay people. I think they are nice and fun. I do not believe they should be allowed to be married as it is a holy ceremony between a man an a woman. I do believe they should have civil unions and have all the legal rights as a heterosexual couple. I also believe that gay couples should not be allowed to raise children. First of all, it is not fair to the child and they have a greater chance of being bullied or growing up to be gay. Also, there are important moral principles and lessons taught by each gender from the parents that gay people can not teach."

Katrina Velsor: "I believe everyone deserves to be loved. This is a wonderful day for the LGBTQ community and I am glad the Supremes voted in their favor, however my choice would have been to leave this decision to the individual states as I am a Libertarian and believe that is what those who wrote the Constitution intended. Also, it is my hope that the First Amendment rights of religious organizations and owners of individual businesses with strong religious beliefs will not be infringed upon. This is America and all of us are entitled to protections under this Amendment."

Anonymous 2: "Gays still aren't going to stop acting "oppressed". In their defense, marriage was already ruined before they got here."

Neil Weidman: "We should stop adhering to "laws" written by bronze age goat herders who didn't know where rain came from."

Debra Knaub: "Now we can just call it marriage."

Anonymous 3: "I think that it's ridiculous for our country to condone same sex marriage. We are condoning what has been condemned for so long so political agendas can get the support of the LGBT community...I'm actually disgusted."

Matilynn Wallace: "Thanks America, for finally learning how to be fair."

Anonymous 4: "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

Celebrities also took to social media platforms to share their thoughts on the legalization:

Mr. President Barack Obama sent out a tweet on Friday, June 26th saying, "Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins"

Ellen DeGeneres also took to twitter with, "Love won. #MarriageEquality"

Neil Patrick Harris' tweet on Friday read, "It's a new day. Thank you Supreme Court. Thank you Justice Kennedy. Your opinion is profound, in more ways than you may know. #huzzah"

Ellen Page also tweeted saying, "Wow. So moved to hear such amazing news. What a beautiful day. Grateful to those who have worked so tirelessly for equality. #LoveWins"

I am a strong believer that, regardless of my opinion, your opinion, President Barack Obama's opinion, or even God's opinion, if you don't agree with something, that is FINE. However, that does not mean you should go through unnecessarily great lengths just to make your opinion on the matter known while bringing other people down along the way. I believe it is okay for people to have different views but no matter what the indifference is, you should let people be happy; especially if you have no control over the situation and can not change it.
Today is a happy day, whether you agree with same-sex marriage or not.

Love has won and marriage equality is finally here for those who want it.

And for those of you saying "It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."
I now give you permission to Adam and LEAVE.

Let

People

Be

Happy.

Now, just like the wise Drake once said (because I'm pretty sure there is no better time than now) "STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM NOW WE'RE HERE".

Love is love and this just proves that love will always win.
#LOVEWINS.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
