Five Trends That Will Never Go Out of Style

“Traits like humility, courage, and empathy are easily overlooked - but it's immensely important to find them in your closest relationships. –Laura Linney”

In life there are a lot of trends and fads that are constantly changing. No matter what the "it" thing is at the time, here are five trends that I guarantee will never go out of style.

1. Confidence: (n) Belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities; self-confidence; self-reliance; assurance.

Self-confidence is one of the most important character traits that a person can have. In today’s world, having the confidence to be you all the time is not only brave but also admirable. With today’s media, it is very easy for people to have low self-esteem and confidence issues. Therefore, knowing who you are and embracing it is a trend that will never fade.

2. Passion: (n) Passion is an intense emotion, compelling enthusiasm or desire for anything.

Passion can be hard to come by these days. Having passion for people and  interests is so important to living a happy and fulfilled life. One of the most attractive things is to see a person who displays passion towards a goal they really want to strive to complete. Passion helps people focus on what they want and is a great driving force for success.

3. Sense of Humor: (n) The trait of appreciating (and being able to express) the humorous.

It really is true that laughter is the best medicine. Having a good sense of humor and surrounding yourself with people that do, will make your days much more pleasant. A person, who can make fun of them self and doesn’t take life too seriously all the time, is someone everyone should strive to be a little more like. I don’t think my friends or I could get through a day without laughter, most of the time it’s at each other, but nevertheless it puts everyone in a great mood.

4. Humility: (n) A modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness.

In an age where humility has seemed to disappear, being humble is now more important than ever. A person comes off so much better when they don’t feel the need to brag about their accomplishments, belongings and monetary status. Have you ever experienced having a conversation with someone who brags the entire time? If you know what I am talking about, you know how unattractive and aggravating it is. Being humble will get you much further in life than showboating around.

5. Integrity: (n) The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

Integrity needs to be preserved, not lost. Having strong morals and knowing what you stand for is vital. In life, people will always try to challenge your morals. You need to be confident in your self, your choices, and your image and stay true to yourself. Peer pressure is something everyone will experience from one time to another. You are going to be questioned, convinced, and maybe ever judged, so having a strong set or morals is something you’ll need.

Unlike fashion trends, always changing every month, these personality traits are guaranteed to always be in style. Being confident, passionate, able to laugh at yourself, humble, and having strong morals are five traits that will get you far in life and inspire others.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
