Trick or Treat

You want to go out for Halloween but you also want to stay in because you have a prelim next week and want to study or have been under the weather and need a good nights sleep or you just don't want to go out because of the Ebola scare...so what do you do?

You throw your own halloween party. You get a bag of candy, pick some great Halloween-themed movies, and order in some Chinese food and go to bed early.

However, you can't just do this. If you are over 21, you make yourself a drink. Now, its Halloween so you can make yourself a drink that tastes like a Halloween candy. For example:

  • you can make a Snickers using Coca-Cola, whiskey, and peanut orgeat (peanut, sugar, water, orange flavor water, vodka)
  • you can make a York Peppermint Patty using cream, white creme de cacao, and green creme de menthe
  • you can make Starbursts using by making blood orange sangria
  • you can honor How I Met Your Mother and make a Tootsie Roll with root beer and kahlua
  • you can make a Twizzler using red licorice vodka and cherry shnapps
  • you can make a Butterfinger using butter, white rum, chocolate syrup, and hot water
  • you can make an Almond Joy using coffee liqueur, coconut rum, irish creme, coconut cream, and white creme de cacao
  • you can make a WarHeads using egg white, simple syrup, lime juice, and pisco
  • you can make a Twix using Baileys, coffee, and steaming milk
  • you can make a Jolly Rancher using sugar, kosher salt, watermelon juice, vodka, lime juice, and orange liqueur
  • you can make Sour Patch Kids using vodka, lemon juice, club soda, basil, and cherry simple syrup

Not only can you make yourself a cocktail but you can make yourself a homemade costume. Take the flowers in your kitchen and build a head band out of it. Take the cool glasses you got at parties when you were a little kid and blow up a fake guitar and rock out.

If you really feel like vegging out you can watch any of The Simpsons Halloween themed episodes:

  1. ”The Devil and Homer Simpson” Treehouse of Horror IV, 1993
  2. “Clown without Pity” Treehouse of Horror III, 1992
  3. “Citizen Kang” Treehouse of Horror VII, 1996
  4. “Bad Dream House” Treehouse of Horror II, 1990
  5. “Bart Simpson’s Dracula” Treehouse of Horror IV, 1993
  6. ”Homer” Treehouse of Horror VI, 1995
  7. ”Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace” Treehouse of Horror VI, 1995
  8. “Starship Poopers” Treehouse of Horror IX, 1998
  9. “The Shinning” Treehouse of Horror V, 1994
  10. “Attack of the 50 Foot Eyesores” Treehouse of Horror VI, 1995
  11. “The Genesis Tub” Treehouse of Horror VII, 1996
  12. ”The Thing and I” Treehouse of Horror VII, 1996

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
