May I have a triple shot, non-fat, no-whip white mocha and a label to define me, please?
Oh the "typical white girl". Our generation knows her well, and many of us have been harmlessly ridiculed for being one. Pinterest is her favorite pastime, Starbucks is a food group (no matter what anyone says), and UGGs are the only shoes she appears to own during the winter. However, are we all as "typical" as we may seem? Think again.
Hi, my name is Ashley, and I am what most people would automatically classify as your standard, typical white girl. My hair is highlighted blonde, I was a Varsity Cheerleader in high school, my addiction to Starbucks is a little sad to say the least, and one of my biggest problems is finding something to wear in a closet overflowing with clothes I do not even wear most of the time. I am apart of a sorority whose main color is pink, and I hold a position on the Executive Board as the VP of Recruitment.
All of this being said, people I have met throughout my two years of college have come to realize that I am not so typical.
My favorite color? Black, hands down. Seventy-five percent of my closet is filled with it, and if it was acceptable to go everywhere in ripped up black shorts, a black t-shirt, and a beanie, I would. Pop Punk and screamo music will forever be the love of my life, and my dream is to travel the United States with Sleeping With Sirens while they are on tour. Attending every Warped Tour date would be pretty sick too. My prized piece of clothing is a black sweater from Hot Topic with skulls on the elbows and a torn up back. A shocker to most people is that I have a tattoo and a mind full of ideas of more that I would like to get one day. Oh, and I would do anything to own a panda. I mean, who wouldn't?
So who says that the typical white girl has to be all that typical?
There is more to all of us than meets the eye no matter how we are stereotyped. So girls, put on your Victoria Secret leggings, retweet all your favorite TSM tweets, and throw on some black lipstick or a tribal kimono if that's what you love. Never be ashamed or scared to show who you are even if others call you "typical". As our generation loves to say: "you do you", and don't forget to feel fab doing it!
