A Track-By-Track Look At The Legend's Triumphant Return

"25" By Adele - Album Review
Usa today

The moment we've all been waiting for is here. Adele has finally returned with new music. Here're my thoughts on her new album "25" track-by-track. By the way, I'm writing this as I listen to each song for the first time (with the exception of "Hello"), so this is as real as it gets! Let's do it.

1. Hello

This is an anthem. It's already getting way overplayed on the radio and I think some people could get sick of it relatively quickly. BUT, I don't know if Adele has ever sounded this good. The emotion is so raw, and the lyrics are so real. Anyone who has been in a rocky relationship can relate to the song. The chorus is unforgettable. Perfect karaoke song. Adele might have just started off her album with its best content.

Rating: 9.5/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "To tell you, I'm sorry for breaking your heart. but it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart."

2. Send My Love (To Your New Lover)

Love the beginning, very sultry and sexy - a sound we haven't really ever heard from Adele. Got to be honest, not a fan of the chorus. The high pitch reminds me a lot of Bijork (who I'm not a big fan of). Overall, I'm really torn with this piece. Some of it is awesome, but unfortunately the repetitive part is least appealing to the ear.

Rating: 7/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "Send my love to your new lover."

3. I Miss You

Oh, I LOVE this. Perfect for the next 50 Shades movie soundtrack (we all know 50 Shades full of damn good music). This is one of those songs that will give you the feels. We all can connect with that idea of missing someone. And you can feel that pain in Adele's voice. As this song progresses I'm actually enjoying it more and more. The beat of the drum in the background is such a nice touch. I will be placing this one on repeat.

Rating: 8/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "Bring the floor up to me knees, let me fall into your gravity. And kiss me back to life to see, your body standing over me."

4. When We Were Young

THE FEELS. THE FEELS. THE FEELS. This is not the most sad song on the album, but Adele just sounds so raw and real in this slow-ballad that you can't help but feel all types of emotions. I think I love this song so much because you can tell Adele is giving it everything she has. OH MY GOODNESS, THAT HIGH NOTE AT THE END!!!! I'm done. I'm done. This song is too much.

Rating: 9/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "Cause I've been by myself all night long, hoping you're someone I used to know."

5. Remedy

This song is giving me goosebumps. It's the first song of hope on the album and I like the different vibe. After hearing this you can't help but think (as if you weren't already thinking...) WHY WOULD ANYONE UPSET ADELE? She sounds like an amazing partner!!! But hey, it led to all this great music so I'll thank you on Adele's behalf. Back to the song - the piano is complimenting Adele's voice perfectly. This song is elegant and beautiful.

Rating: 7.5/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "When the pain cuts you deep, when the night keeps you from sleeping. Just look and you will see, that I will be your remedy."

6. Water Under The Bridge

Ok I really like the tempo, and I really like the lyrics. But something is missing here for me and I can't really put a finger on it. I've already heard a lot of hype about this song so maybe my expectations were just too high - but it just feels like there is too much going on here. I feel like Adele's voice is getting overshadowed by the background instruments. There is just nothing memorable here for me except for the on-point lyrics. This is my least favorite so far to be completely honest.

Rating: 6.5/ 10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "If you're going to let me down, let me down gently. Don't pretend that you don't want me, our love ain't water under the bridge."

7. River Lea

Yikes. Okay, I'm getting a little worried because this is the second song in a row I am not feeling. I could live without this song, and I think this is without question the weakest so far. A catchy chorus is about all this song has going for it. I actually don't like the way Adele sounds in this one.

Rating: 5/10

Line(s) that tried to make me lose it: "I should probably tell you now before it's way too late, that I never meant to hurt you or lie straight to your face. Consider this my apology - I know it's years in advance, but I'd rather say it now in case I never get the chance."

8. Love In The Dark

I am so happy right now because this song just brought back the feels (the good ones)! This track is so emotional and once again so darn relatable. Two people that were once in love, that want to keep trying, but it's just not there anymore. Adele goes on some really nice, smooth runs in this one. Wow. I like how she doesn't belt any notes here, yet the notes still come out so strong and powerful. Great song.

Rating: 8/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "Take your eyes off me so I can leave, I'm far too ashamed to do it with you watching me. This is never ending - we have been here before, but I can't stay this time cause I don't love you anymore."

9. Million Years Ago

OK AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HEARS SOME "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" IN THIS??? I am obsessed with this song. It's not the catchiest on the album or the most emotional, but I think it's the most artistic. Some cool strings playing behind Adele's voice who SHINES in this track. One of my favorites so far.

Rating: 8.5/10

Line(s) that made me lose it: "I know I'm not the only one who regrets the things they've done. Sometimes I just feel it's only me who never became who they thought they'd be."

10. All I Ask

This is the one. This is the hidden gem on this amazing album. It's actually perfect. The fear of being alone. The final moments with your lover. This ballad will have you in tears. Adele belting ridiculous notes and a keyboard. That's it. Perfection. Best song on the album. It's this album's "Someone Like You" and might be the best work Adele has ever done. I hope I'm not the only one who sees greatness in this track.

Rating: 10/10

Line(s) that made me toss my phone at the wall: "If this is my last night with you, hold me like I'm more than just a friend. Give me a memory I can use - take me by the hand while we do what lovers do. It matters how this ends, cause what if I never love again?"

11. Sweetest Devotion

This song is about Adele's son and even features his voice at the beginning and the end. While I don't think this was the strongest song to end the album with, I totally understand why Adele did so. Her son is her everything. He's Adele's favorite part of being 25. The album comes to a finish with probably the only song on the record that will make you smile.

Rating: 7.5/10

Line(s) that warmed my heart: "When you wonder if I'm gonna lose my way home, just remember, that come whatever, I'll be yours all alone."

And that's it! What are your favorite tracks? Here's the song I would make sure to buy, and the track I'd choose to skip.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
