Spring Break: the seasonal migration of college students from their college towns to vacation spots spanning from the beaches of Florida to the mountains of Colorado. The Gulf Coast draws in thousands of students each year for weeks at a time, my friends included. So, in retaliation of my *slight* FOMO (fear of missing out), I compiled a list of why going home is going to be just as fun as being on the beach.
1. Your parents are so pumped to see you.
80% because they missed you, 20% because they know you're home and not somewhere in the Gulf.
2. Hearing "dinner is ready!"Â
Home-made meals? Already made for me?
3. Not having to worrying about your "spring break body."
Anyone can look good in sweatpants.
4. Catching up on sleep.
Who knew you could actually get 8 hours of sleep a night? Who knew you could also stay asleep for 14 hours straight?
5. No weird beach guys hitting on you.
You may be going out for Spring Break, but cautiously remember that other people are too.
6. Going out to eat nice meals.
It's not chicken wings and burgers every night!Â
7. Your mom will take you shopping.
I do indeed need new spring clothes!
8. Peace and quiet.
Being in a beach house with 20 girls is fun but so is undisturbed naps.
9. Your own bed.
A whole bed. All to myself.
10. No one will ask you to participate in a beach jumping photo.
"3...2...jump! No wait do it again I missed it."
11. Eating at your favorite hometown restaurants.
Hello, old friend.
12. Avoiding sunburn.
It could tan, or it could leave in pain and smelling like aloe vera.Â
13. Two-ply toilet paper.
What a luxury!
14. Actually getting laundry done.
Nothing beats the feeling of clean sheets.
15. Not having to organize where you and your house of 20 girls are going to eat.
As if 20 girls will agree on a place to eat..
16. Clean bathrooms where you can take your time.
No shower shoes! No sand! No shower shifts!
17. Getting ahead (or catching up) on school work.
Will I have the motivation to study? Probably not.
18. Or Netflix...
Holla House of Cards season 3!
19. Not having to try to perfect the "I don't care beach waves that look actually perfect and took about 45 minutes to complete" look.
HOW??
20. No awkward beach encounters with old high school friends.
Do I say hi or do I pretend I don't see them?
21. Not having to face huge crowds of people.
"Okay let's stick together! Wait where's everyone?"
22. You don't have to feel like this standing next to your friends.
Nope.
23. Reclaiming your spot on the couch.
That spot on the couch that cradled you for all those years is ready to hold you for a week.
24. Not waking up to your own 250 second long Snapchat story.
But you will have to go through other people's..
25. Getting to work out without being watched by every cute boy ever.
26. Not having to see about 700 of these t-shirts on guys.
Clever and cool! #boyfriendmaterial
27. Reminding your body what it's like to have a well-balanced diet.
What is a vegetable?
28. Cable TV.
Live television? Commercials? DVR?Â
29. Having a bath tub you trust.
The concept of "community bath tub" is 0% okay with me.
30. Not actually having to go outside for any reason.
Being tan is cool and so is skiing but air conditioning is better.
31. Getting money...
32. Finally, the most wonderful joy of all, you get to see your pets.
I get to hang out with my animals for a week. What more could I ask for?
In all seriousness, no matter where you end up going, everyone have a fun and SAFE Spring Break!Â
