11 Reasons Why My Big is My BFF

20

Ask any sorority girl what her most memorable experience in Greek Life has been, and she will most likely tell you it was the day she got her Big. The anticipation mounts as the moment draws nearer – who is my Big? This moment is not only important because of the adorable Instagram photos that are sure to follow, but this is also the time when you find out with whom you will be sharing a part, or all, of your life with.

A girl’s Big is often her go-to girl for anything from Sonic runs to advice. She is the big sister you’ve never had – you can finally share everything with someone (clothes, secrets, literally anything). Here are 11 reasons why my big is also my BFF:

1.   My Big is THE person to rant or complain to about anything; whether it be friends, roommates, mean professors or tripping on the way to class, I can literally tell this girl anything. My Big is the first to hear it all — she never fails to listen and comfort me.

2.   She is never one to turn down a trip to Chipotle (even if it means skipping chapter meeting). Chipotle is, of course, always followed by a fro-yo run. Chipotle plus fro-yo are absolutely the very best way to bond with your big.

3.   My Big gives the most truthful, helpful advice whenever I need it. She says what needs to be said in any moment, which is a task that not just anyone can (or is willing to) do.

4.   She’s always willing to pick me up or drive me around. Free gas? I’ll take it. Bigs are pretty much always thoughtful like this. What else are Bigs for but to spoil their Littles?

5.   Even if I know I’m wrong in an argument, she will always back me up and tell me that I’m right.

6.   While she does hand out some solid advice, there is also, of course, the occasional time when she may lead me slightly astray. Texting boys from Tinder might not always be the smartest idea, but hey, what is life without risks?

7.   She even has my back in academic matters. My Big handed down to me her old textbooks and notes for basically every class. Instead of having to buy yet another expensive (but inevitably useless) textbook, I got one for free. Isn’t that handy?

8.   When you happen to wear the same clothing sizes and shoe size as your Big, your wardrobe instantly doubles. And don’t forget the fabulous jewelry!

9.   She encourages and motivates me, and I (try to) do the same for her, whether that be through being each other’s running partner or SnapChatting each other before a big test (like the MCAT, nbd…my Big is a genius).

10. My Big is the first one I texted to come with me to the doctor to get my blood drawn. She takes on the role of mom in that way —she was there for me to hold my hand and even brought candy for me to have afterward. (Again, she spoils me.)

11. If you happen to hit someone’s car and break down into hysterical tears and become unable to speak, your Big will step in and communicate all the necessary information for you (not that I’m speaking from personal experience or anything).

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
